LWC stands for Light Weight Coated paper, which is a type of paper characterized by its lightweight, smooth, and coated surface. LWC paper is commonly used in various printing applications where a balance between print quality and cost-effectiveness is desired.
The production of LWC paper involves a coating process where a thin layer of clay or other materials is applied to one side of the paper. This coating helps improve the paper’s surface smoothness, ink holdout, and printability. The coating can be applied in different thicknesses, depending on the desired print quality and application requirements.
LWC paper is typically lightweight coating ranging from 8 to 10 grams per square meter . Its low basis weight coating makes it more economical compared to heavier coating paper grades, while still providing sufficient strength and durability for its intended applications.
One of the key advantages of LWC paper is its excellent printability. The smooth and coated surface allows for sharp and vibrant printing of text, images, and graphics. It provides good ink holdout, reducing ink absorption and allowing for high-resolution printing with minimal show-through. LWC paper is suitable for various printing methods, including offset printing, rotogravure, and flexography.
It’s important to note that LWC paper may have limitations in terms of opacity and bulk compared to heavier paper grades. The thin coating can also make it more susceptible to scratching or scuffing, requiring proper handling and protection during printing and distribution.
